Dinosaur National Monument

The Quarry Exhibit Hall displays over 1,500 dinosaur fossils still embedded in the cliff face — Allosaurus, Stegosaurus, Diplodocus, and more from the Jurassic era. Beyond the quarry, the monument stretches across 210,000 acres of canyon country along the Green and Yampa rivers with petroglyphs, scenic drives, and backcountry hiking. McConkie Ranch Petroglyphs

Dry Fork Canyon north of Vernal holds some of the most impressive Fremont culture rock art in the American West. The petroglyphs at McConkie Ranch are large, detailed, and visible from a maintained trail along the canyon wall. Free to visit, roughly an hour to see the main panels. Red Fleet State Park

Red Fleet Reservoir combines swimming, boating, and fishing with a unique draw — dinosaur trackways preserved in the sandstone along the north shore. The three-toed theropod tracks are accessible via a short hike and visible year-round. The red rock setting around the reservoir is dramatic enough on its own. Fifteen minutes from town. Utah Field House of Natural History

Downtown Vernal’s natural history museum features an outdoor Dinosaur Garden with life-size replicas, plus indoor exhibits covering the geology, paleontology, and cultural history of the Uintah Basin. Good for families and a solid rainy-day option. Typically takes one to two hours.

Steinaker State Park & Flaming Gorge

Steinaker Reservoir is five minutes from town — swimming, paddleboarding, camping, and easy lakeside walks. For a bigger excursion, Flaming Gorge (about an hour north) is one of Utah’s top fishing destinations with dramatic red canyon scenery, lake trout, and kokanee salmon.
